Liability for nuclear contamination
The Court of Appeal has upheld the 1996 decision of the High Court to hold the Ministry of Defence liable for over £6 million in respect of a radioactive contamination incident at the Atomic Weapons Establishment at Aldermaston in 1989. The judgement is one of a handful interpreting civil liability provisions in the Nuclear Installations Act 1965 and will be relevant to the operators of any nuclear establishment.
