"Sustainable consumption" of paper comes under the spotlight

The issue of "sustainable consumption" has been brought into focus in recent discussions between the paper industry - which sees paper as an inherently sustainable resource and is launching a new campaign to promote consumption - and environmental groups which argue that use of virgin fibre must be reduced. Meanwhile, a proposal by a Department of the Environment (DETR) working group to make resource consumption one of a new set of sustainable development indicators has met with objections from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
