Brent Spar's fate agreed

Shell's proposal to use the Brent Spar oil storage buoy in the construction of a quay in Norway has been approved by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). The DTI decision follows a report from an expert committee which concluded that the environmental impacts of the option were "acceptably small" and not sufficiently different from the original deep sea disposal option "to provide useful discrimination between them."
