Car makers flag up barriers to vehicle recovery

The "plummeting" value of recovered materials is barely covering the costs of recycling end-of-life vehicles (ELVs), while unauthorised dismantlers are jeopardising the profitability of legitimate businesses, according to the Automotive Consortium on Recycling and Disposal (ACORD). Meanwhile, the Consortium for Automotive Recycling (CARE) has warned that restrictions on the quality of feed to energy recovery processes are severely limiting the options for using shredder residue as a fuel.
