Tougher standards recommended for sludge use in agriculture

A modest tightening of controls on the disposal of sewage sludge to agricultural land has been recommended in a review prepared for the Department of the Environment (DETR) and the water industry. 1 The study broadly reflects the measures currently under debate between the industry and retailers, who have been pressing for more precautionary controls to protect the food chain.
