Landfill firms snap up raw offal in aftermath of BSE crisis

Recent legislation on animal waste has failed to prevent slaughterhouse waste being tipped at landfills - including sites operated by leading waste management firms - following the withdrawal of a subsidy paid to the rendering industry which traditionally processed the material. In a bid to stamp out the illegal practice, the Ministry of Agriculture (MAFF) issued new guidance in July. 1
