UNEP plan to head off trade-environment disputes

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the secretariats of 15 Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs) have called on the World Trade Organization (WTO) to join them in developing a framework to prevent conflict between international environmental treaties and trade rules. The call is a warning to the WTO that the MEAs intend to retain the option to use trade measures.
