Water company admits 260 abstraction offences

Essex and Suffolk Water Company appeared in court in August to admit 260 offences of abstracting water illegally. It was fined £14,000 on 27 charges relating to five boreholes, one of which is believed to be affecting a wetland wildlife reserve in danger of drying out. South East Water was also fined in August for several breaches of legal requirements relating to pipe relining operations which could have resulted in the entry of toxic substances into drinking water.
