RMC penalised for by-passing lagoons

National ready-mix concrete company RMC was fined £4,000 in August after admitting polluting the river Boyd, near Bristol, with silt. An inspection by the Environment Agency found that the company was discharging effluent from its Wick site which by-passed its treatment lagoons. The discharge had 14 times the permitted level of suspended solids.
