Monsanto faces prosecution, stirs concern over civil liberties
Monsanto, the US agribusiness giant running a £1 million PR campaign in Britain in an attempt to alleviate public concern about genetically manipulated (GM) crops, is facing a major embarrassment following the disclosure that it may be the first company to be prosecuted for breaching a consent to release GM crops. The firm is also embroiled in a civil suit against activists who claim it is using oppressive legal tactics which infringe their civil liberties.
