Local authorities under pressure to improve LAPC inspection record
Most authorities enforcing the local air pollution control (LAPC) regime are falling far short of the twice-yearly inspection frequency set out in official guidance. The Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) will soon propose measures to improve enforcement - a key requirement if councils are to retain oversight of processes which come under the EC Directive on integrated pollution prevention and control (IPPC).
