Vegetable growers fail nitrate limits

Official monitoring of UK-produced lettuce and spinach has shown that growers are unable to meet EC nitrate limits consistently. The Ministry of Agriculture (MAFF) says that overall dietary intakes remain well within safety limits - but some individuals consuming drinking water and vegetables with high nitrate contents may be close to the limits in some years.
