The Environment Agency's yawning accountability gap

The Environment Agency claims to be an open and accountable organisation. But its Board continues to resist opening up its proceedings to external scrutiny as other public environmental bodies are opening up theirs, while its annual reports provide far less information on its effectiveness in protecting the environment than those of its predecessors. Awareness of the potential consequences for public and business confidence in the Agency among the organisation's top brass appears to be in short supply.
