Few moves on waste policy in response to Environment Committee

The Government has mostly restated established policies in its response to this summer's critical report on waste management from the House of Commons Environment Committee. 1 Among the few new announcements are the disclosure of plans to consult on a risk-based approach to inspections of waste sites by the Environment Agency and a review of exemptions from waste licensing. The Government has also signalled that it sees only a circumscribed role for life-cycle analysis in waste management decisions.
