Ministers order £8.5 billion water investment programme
Water industry investments between 2000-2005 will include a comprehensive package of environmental improvements provisionally costed at £8.5 billion and allow cuts in water bills of around 10%, Environment Ministers announced in September. 1 The Environment Agency and various conservation bodies appear to have persuaded the Government that most customers favour increased spending on the environment over and above that required by EC Directives.
