Zeneca trouble over glycerol spill
Life sciences company Zeneca has been served with an enforcement notice by the Environment Agency for a release of five tonnes of glycerol to the river Tees. The glycerol, used in fermentation processes at the firm's Billingham site, was surplus to requirements and had been emptied into containers earlier in the year. The Agency says "Zeneca staff were evaluating the best option for safe disposal when the release occurred."
