"Obstinate" renderer closed down in landmark appeal decision

The Environment Secretary has broken new ground in the local air pollution control (LAPC) regime by closing down a Wiltshire animal rendering business after ruling that it would be unable to comply with an authorisation. Another appeal decision, this time under integrated pollution control (IPC), has raised questions about how far the Environment Agency should go in pursuing consistent standards for firms in the same sector.
