New strategy proposed for consumer product information

Reliance on eco-labelling to reduce the environmental impacts of consumer goods should be replaced by a "horses for courses" approach using a variety of measures such as voluntary sectoral information programmes and product standards, according to a consultation paper issued by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR). 1 However, the paper also seeks views on options for national eco-label or award schemes.
