Three companies fined over unfit drinking water

Severn Trent, Northumbrian and Sutton and East Surrey Water companies were all prosecuted in October for supplying water unfit for human consumption. Severn Trent was fined £8,000 for supplying water described by one customer as "brown sludge", while Northumbrian was fined £6,000 for supplying water with "a horrible colour". And Sutton and East Surrey Water was fined £5,000 after customers complained of receiving "water like skimmed milk with sediment."
