Second reprocessor loses packaging accreditation

Following a barrage of criticism over the enforcement of the packaging regulations, a second packaging waste reprocessor has lost its accredited status - and thus its right to issue packaging recovery notes (PRNs). In October, the Environment Agency withdrew accreditation from Isle of Wight-based Save Wood Products.

Now the Scottish Environment Protection Agency has withdrawn accreditation from glass reprocessor Mac-Glass because the company's audit trail failed to allow SEPA to check inputs of packaging waste against its outputs of recycled glass.

Unlike the Environment Agency, which has refused to accept any more applications for registration after 7 November, SEPA is continuing to consider late registrations.
