Waste paper and plastic is to be incinerated as fuel in Castle Cement's Ketton works under a trial authorised by the Environment Agency in November - the first such trial in the UK. Tyres and waste solvents will continue to be burned at the plant alongside the new waste streams. The waste paper and plastic are to be "clearly identifiable" residues from "industrial processes". The Agency expects that the trial will show that most kiln emissions will remain unchanged but there will be a small reduction in nitrogen oxides.
