The Environment Agency has served a prohibition notice and five enforcement notices on Nipa Laboratories of Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire. The action followed a release of acid gases on 26 November, believed to be caused by the failure of a circulation pump on a scrubber. The Agency has required Nipa to review operating procedures and personnel training on all parts of the site. The site has been on the receiving end of frequent enforcement action, including at least four previous prohibition notices and three enforcement notices. Nipa is due to be prosecuted following an incident last May.
