Farmers face massive expansion of nitrate leaching controls

Farmers in most arable areas of Britain are likely soon to be told to restrict nitrogen inputs to their land. The move has been forced on the Government by the European Commission, which has threatened legal action against the UK for its over-restrictive interpretation of the 1991 EC Directive on nitrate pollution by agriculture.
