Health committee urges action on shellfish waters, sludge to land

Measures to protect shellfish waters from sewage pollution and a review of the use of sewage sludge on farmland have been recommended by a Department of Health advisory committee. 1 The Government has recently announced action in both areas, and the report appears to have been influential in putting the case for higher environmental standards to protect public health.
