Food industry blames MAFF for phthalate scare

A Europe-wide scare over phthalate plasticisers in baby formula milk in 1996 was a result of analytical errors by the Ministry of Agriculture (MAFF), the food industry has alleged. Recent MAFF analyses suggest that phthalate levels are now much lower, but manufacturers say they have not significantly altered their products.
