£10,000 "duty of care" fine for Albright & Wilson

Chemicals firm Albright and Wilson was fined £10,000 in December for consigning a load of waste acid in plastic containers which had gone brittle with age. Alco Waste Management, the contractor handling the load when it leaked on the public road, was also fined for causing water pollution - but a second charge of failing in its "duty of care" as a waste carrier was unsuccessful.
