An epidemiological study has linked high levels of lead in drinking water in north-west England to serious nervous disorders in developing foetuses.1 The region has the highest lead levels in the country, and the findings have drawn attention to the delays in a North West Water programme to reduce the plumbosolvency of its supplies.
