No targets yet for Scottish waste strategy

A severe shortage of capacity for recycling and treating wastes in Scotland has been identified in the country's draft national waste strategy, published by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) in March.1 SEPA has deferred proposing any targets to increase waste recycling and recovery or reduce waste generation until it completes a wide-ranging consultation and data-gathering exercise next year.
