Scottish Power's NO<SUB>x</SUB> abatement raises BATNEEC questions

Scottish Power has commissioned a novel gas reburn system at its Longannet power station which is claimed to be as effective as catalytic techniques in abating emissions of nitrogen oxides, but considerably cheaper. The firm is also considering fitting flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) equipment to the station, and is involved in plans for a neighbouring "clean coal" demonstration plant.
