Firms begin APE phase-out

Some manufacturers and retailers are quietly removing alkyl phenol ethoxylates (APEs) from their products in response to concern about their oestrogenic effects. Colgate Palmolive and Procter & Gamble have removed APEs from all or part of their personal care ranges, while Boots and Sainsbury are in the process of reformulating products. But some companies are refusing to reveal whether their products contain APEs.
