  • Despite opposition from local environmental groups, Greater Manchester Waste has received planning permission to upgrade its Bolton incinerator which closed last year. Plans for the 128,000-tonne plant include improved emission controls, and installation of an energy recovery facility. The scheme received a Government non-fossil fuel obligation subsidy in March (ENDS Report 266, pp 15-16 ).
