OFT forces paper and glass sectors to reconsider packaging plans

Reprocessors of waste cardboard and glass have been forced to rethink their plans for material-specific schemes to comply with the new packaging recovery legislation following concerns voiced by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). The change of tack has alleviated a threat to the viability of compliance schemes proposed by waste businesses. Meanwhile, six schemes had received Government approval by the end of August, with Valpak attracting around half the obligated companies.
