Customs seeks to bolster landfill tax credits scheme

Entrust, the ailing regulatory body set up in 1996 to oversee the landfill tax credits system, has received a shot in the arm from Customs and Excise. In addition to agreeing a temporary five-fold increase in Entrust's fee income, Customs has helped to soothe the nerves of landfill operators by clarifying rules on the "claw-back" of funds they contribute to environmental projects.
