DETR consults on works notices for water pollution

Draft regulations to enable the Environment Agency to prevent or clean up water pollution by serving works notices on the responsible parties were issued for consultation by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR) on 4 August.1 The DETR has discounted industry fears that the Agency may use the powers to bypass the provisions on contaminated land in the Environment Act 1995.
