Survey of old landfills points to hidden groundwater impact
The first official review of groundwater pollution from old landfills since the 1970s has linked only four sites with proven contamination of public water supplies.1 But it found 11 sites where pollution has spread more than 100 metres, and concluded that similar problems have occurred elsewhere but gone unnoticed.
