Government urged to give a lead on climate change
The Government was sent two clear signals by its official advisors in September that it needs to give a strong lead if it is to meet its ambitious target to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide. The Prime Minister ducked the issue in his speech to the Labour Party conference - but he will scarcely be able to do so as his Government formulates a revised UK climate change strategy over the next few months. Meanwhile, concerns are stirring about the security and price of future supplies of gas - a crucial component of the strategy with the nuclear option seemingly closed off.
