Disposable batteries face challenge from rechargeables

A new type of rechargeable battery which does not contain heavy metals has been launched in the UK as an alternative to disposables. The rechargeable alkaline manganese (RAM) cells may also replace nickel/cadmium (NiCd) rechargeables in some small consumer markets.
