Dispute over oestrogenic hazards from food can linings
A new food safety dispute is looming for the Government after an official committee issued a reassuring statement about the health risks of a chemical widely used in food can linings. A leading US scientist believes that levels of the chemical found in tinned meat and fish by a Ministry of Agriculture (MAFF) study may pose oestrogenic risks to humans, and has fiercely criticised the basis of the committee's conclusions.
