Revised traffic forecasts still spell trouble on CO<SUB>2</SUB>

Road traffic is set to increase by 38% over the next 20 years on current policies, according to new forecasts by the Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions (DETR).1 The growth trend is less steep than in earlier projections - but much greater reductions in traffic will still be needed if the Government is to meet its target to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
