Less waste than expected leaves £80m hole in landfill tax revenue
Revenue from the landfill tax is running about 15% below expected levels, leaving an £80 million per year hole in Government finances. The figures suggest that much less industrial and commercial waste is sent to landfill than previously believed - and they also raise concerns over tax evasion and a possible growth in unregulated disposal.
