Shell study identifies benefits from recovering Brent Spar
Shell has discovered that onshore dismantling of the Brent Spar oil storage buoy offers environmental benefits over deep sea disposal (DSD) - albeit at a hefty cost penalty. But Government policy on rig disposal remains unclear, despite the "presumption" against sea dumping announced in September. Meanwhile, an experiment to turn rigs into artificial reefs is planned for next year.
