National eco-labelling scheme is an option, says Meacher
There are "strong arguments" in favour of the UK establishing its own eco-labelling scheme, according to Environment Minister Michael Meacher. Despite pressure to support the European Commission's proposal to revise the EC scheme when the UK assumes the EC Presidency in January, Mr Meacher is instead suggesting putting more effort into harmonising national schemes - possibly supported by mandatory product standards.
