Packaging regulations prompt alternatives to carrier bags
Supermarkets have introduced reusable plastic boxes and thicker "bags for life" as an alternative to conventional carrier bags - which count as "packaging" under the packaging regulations. The boxes and bags - all made from virgin plastic - will reduce retailers' costs and their recycling obligations under the new regime.
