Inexperienced MPs dominate environmental audit committee
A Labour election manifesto pledge was honoured on 10 November when a new Environmental Audit Committee was established in the House of Commons. Its first inquiry will be into the environmental aspects of the Chancellor's pre-Budget statement on 25 November. With two-thirds of its members elected for the first time in May, the Committee faces a stiff challenge if it is to become an effective scrutineer of Government policy and practice.
