Fishing bans over oil, nuclear pollution raise compensation issue

Orders banning fishing off two areas of Scotland were introduced at the end of October in response to a major offshore oil spill and the latest discovery of radioactive particles close to the Dounreay nuclear works. The parliamentary debates on both Orders have shown that the Government's efforts to take a more precautionary approach to food safety are leading it into tricky waters.
