Welsh incident puts spotlight on leaking petrol stations

A massive petrol leak from a service station which polluted a high-quality river and forced the evacuation of a school and homes in a Welsh village is still awaiting clean-up after 13 months, the House of Commons heard on 19 November. The Health and Safety Executive and the Environment Agency came in for strong criticism over their handling of the affair. The incident has served as a reminder that regulations to control pollution risks from petrol and other oil stores on which the Government consulted a year ago are still awaited.
