EC water Directives on toxics, fish and shellfish implemented

Statutory water quality standards for a dozen dangerous substances will come into force in England and Wales next April under regulations laid before Parliament in November.1 Separately, two EC Directives intended to protect the quality of waters supporting shellfish and freshwater fish were given legal force in Scotland in November after almost 20 years.
