Scottish rivers improve as drinking water deteriorates

Reduced pollution from farms, industry and sewage works led to an improvement in Scottish surface water quality between 1990 and 1995, according to a report from the Scottish Office.1 But Scotland's drinking water quality deteriorated slightly in 1996, despite improved compliance with key microbiological parameters.2
