Plastic bottle recycling rises, but big gap to bridge to EC target

Collection of plastic bottles for recycling increased by a third in 1997, according to Recoup, the bottle collection organisation. However, the key to the plastics industry meeting its packaging recycling targets for 2001 - and the UK complying with the EC Directive on packaging waste - remains the speedy construction of several feedstock recycling plants.
