Tougher emission limits for heavy-duty diesel vehicles

Emissions from heavy duty diesel-fuelled vehicles are to be reduced by 30% below current standards by 2000 under a proposed Directive adopted by the European Commission in December. The Commission is also planning to set target emission values to encourage use of low-emission vehicles in areas of poor air quality.
